My soul has a desire and longing for the courts of the LORD;* my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. (Ps 84:1).
As I rise in this Coastal Oregon forest at dawn, I read this psalm in my morning prayer. These are the lines I’ll linger with and return to through the day. Yesterday’s word about God’s priceless love was, well, priceless!
A few grateful memories from yesterday :
• a herd of 8-10 bull elk crossing the road right in front of us on the last stretch of our ride. They are huge!
• a cup of Americano at the Tillamook Starbucks never tasted better!
• Oregon is green in ways that I had forgotten. Here, they have to work at cutting stuff back. In So Cal we have to work hard to make things grow.
• the roar of the waves putting me to sleep and waking me this morning.
• the gift of some unhurried time with my brother and my dad. Travelling at ” bike speed” is helping me notice more.
• the all-day overcast that kept our ride cool. Today, the sun is already peeking out.
• the unfamiliar birdsong surrounding us.
• sharing a campfire with Dan and dad, and a few fellow bikers camping nearby.
• my first 60 mile day on a bike and, God willing, my first 80 mile day today.
The picture below is my campsite this morning. Amazing to think I didn’t get here in a car!

This is awesome man! I hope to do something like this next year.
“In So Cal we have to work hard to male things grow…”
“Bike speed” … isn’t that so true. Excited for you guys as I remember by own bike journey. Enjoy the moments and the sore muscles… ha ha!
